The Daily Bread Program
What is the daily bread program?
In March of 2015 IAMercy started The Daily Bread Program to care for the physical and spiritual needs of children who were on the streets of Nairobi. 12 boys came on the first weekend of the feedings. IAMercy started on the side of the road by giving out eggs, bread, and juice while also teaching a Gospel lesson to the children who came.
At first only boys came to the feedings. But, after many months one girl asked “Is this a boys only ministry?” We welcomed her and she joined us. She started bringing a number of other girls with her.
By 2018 The Daily Bread Program had about 70 people attending the feedings, including girls. In 2019 God opened up a much bigger place for IAMercy to use in the Kawangware slum of Nairobi, through a local Church of the Nazarene. In 2020 IAMercy started renting multiple rooms from the Nazarene church to use for feedings (as well as other IAMercy programs). IAMercy broke children down into age groups with class teachers (like Sunday School or Children’s Church). By 2024 The Daily Bread Program was averaging about 700 children at this one location (boys and girls ranging from small children to teenagers).
A Second Location
In early 2025 God helped IAMercy form a partnership with another church in the Kawangware slum. This church allowed IAMercy to start a second feeding location on their premises (this second location is a good distance from the primary feeding location). IAMercy is currently serving about 300 children each week at this new location.
Feeding 1,000 children weekly through the daily bread program
God has grown The Daily Bread Program tremendously. IAMercy serves about 1,000 children each week between the two feeding locations. About 700 children come to the primary location while roughly 300 come to the second.
Giving Children The Bread Of Life
The most important thing IAMercy does in The Daily Bread Program is give children the Bread of Life. While we provide a hot meal to those who come, it is the Word of God that is the greatest gift we give to those we are helping. Each Saturday a large team of teachers, cooks, guards, etc. bring Jesus to the children/youth of the Kawangware slum who meet us at our various premises. We are currently working story by story through the Old Testament.
